France featured strongly on a list of the world’s Top 50 beaches published by Britain’s The Guardian newspaper last week, with Dune du Pyla near Bordeaux ranking second in the world.
The Guardian list included two beaches in mainland France, one on Corsica and another in French Polynesia.
About an hour’s drive from Bordeaux, Dune du Pyla is the highest dune in Europe at more than 100 metres. It also offers “panoramic views over the Atlantic” backed by pine forests and “miles of beaches to explore along the Bassin d’Arcachon.
