The world’s oldest woman turned 116 years old on Saturday, and the world is celebrating with her, including President Barack Obama.
Jeralean Talley of Inkster, Michigan, will enjoy the last of three birthday celebrations in her honor Sunday at her church. Talley, who was born in 1899, was named the world’s oldest person last month, though she technically gained the title in April, after Gertrude Weaver of Arkansas passed away – five days after being granted the title herself.
Talley has been active all of her life and still lives in her own home – though her daughter moved in several years ago to help care for her. She still goes fishing every summer, and gardened and mowed her own lawn late into her life.
